Recently, Li Jiawen, a postgraduate from the College of Civil Engineering of Huaqiao University (HQU), published a paper titled “Sodium tetraborate simultaneously enhances the degradation of acetaminophen and reduces the formation potential of chlorinated by-products with heat-activated peroxymonosulfate oxidation” as the first author in Water Research.

Water Research, a journal of the International Water Association (IWA) with the latest impact factor of 13.400, is listed among 82 high-quality natural-science journals in the Nature Index database and the top 5% journals in the National Science Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC). Water Research, a leading international journal on the science and technology research of global water quality and its management, is highly influential in academic circles with numerous high-quality research papers and review articles on the global water environment and water applied science.

The research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Youth Innovation Grant of Xiamen, and the HQU Analysis and Testing Center of Instruments. Professor Zou Jing is the corresponding author of the paper, with HQU as the first affiliation.

This is the second postgraduate who published a paper as the first author in this journal under the instruction of Prof. Zhou over the past year, with Lin Jinbin, the postgraduate of Class of 2022 as the first. Lin published three papers as the first author in Water Research, Chemical Engineering Journal, and Chemosphere, and was presented with the 2022 HQU President’s Special Award during his postgraduate study. He is now a doctoral student at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
