On October 5th, Prof. Phillipp Kapranov’s research team from Institute of Genomics, School of Medicine of Huaqiao University (HQU), presented a new SSinGle-AP method that can map abasic (AP) sites in various types of tissue cell in mammalian genome with nucleotide-level precision, and found the distribution of AP sites in the mammalian genome-wide for the first time in the field. The result was published online in Nature Communications titled “Complex genomic patterns of abasic sites in mammalian DNA revealed by a high-resolution SSiNGLe-AP method”.

The research was conducted by Cai Ye, the first author, a doctoral student from School of Medicine of HQU, and doctoral students Wang Fang and Zhang Yufei. Prof. Philipp Kapranov is the corresponding author of the study while Dr. Cao Huifen works as co-corresponding author. The research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No. 32170619), Natural Science Foundation of Fujian Province, China (Grant No. 2020J02006), Youth Innovation Grant of Xiamen, Fujian Province, China (Grant No. 3502Z2020615), the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities of Huaqiao University (Grant No. ZQN-922), and so on.
