HQU International Students Join Event in Xiamen to Promote Sino-Filipino Ties

On December 8, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of the Philippines, the Xiamen Municipal People’s Government and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Communities jointly organized an event themed as “Inheriting the Love Between China and the Philippines, Hand in Hand for the Future --- China-Philippines Cultural Station Enters Xiamen”. International students from the Philippines in the new media studio of Huaqiao University (HQU), Voice of Overseas Students, were invited to participate.

 

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, Mayor of Xiamen Municipal People’s Government Huang Wenhui, and President of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Communities Yang Huahong attended the event and delivered speeches. Huang Xilian said at the Philippine branch that even China and the Philippines are separated by the sea, there has been a long history of friendly exchanges. The “China-Philippines Cultural Station”, an important platform to promote cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between China and the Philippines, has greatly mobilized the Filipino-Chinese community since its launch. It will continue to deepen the exchanges and mutual understanding between Chinese and Filipino civilizations and promote Chinese culture to the Philippines and the world furthermore.

 

International students from the Philippines in the new media studio of HQU, Voice of Overseas Students, presented their vision of China at the event, which won the recognition and praise of the guests from home and abroad. The “Foreign Students’ View on the Characteristic Development of Gaoshan Village” told the story of a Filipino-Chinese student Li Huajian following the footsteps of President Xi Jinping. After visiting Junying village of Xiamen, he explored the way of poverty alleviation and revitalization development of Chinese countryside with his camera. The “Immersive Experience of Wrapping Zongzi at Dragon Boat Festival for International students from the Philippines” showed Wang Meiren and Xu Zhenzhen making Hokkien Zongzi with special seafood and meat, telling the world about Chinese folk customs and Chinese delicacies.

 

The photo exhibition on “China’s Extraordinary Decade in the New Era”, along with exhibition of Fujian crafts, tea and food demonstrations were also held at the Philippine branch to showcase the exciting story of “China’s Governance” in the new decade and the vivid forms of Fujian’s intangible cultural heritage. More than 1,000 people from both countries participated online and onsite.
