3x3 FISU World University League - 2018 Finals Kicks off at HQU

The Opening Ceremony

      On the morning of November 15th, 3x3 FISU World University League – 2018 Finals kicked off at Xiamen campus of Huaqiao University. World’s top 32 basketball teams from 24 countries and regions will compete with each other in the Finals.

      Guests attending the opening ceremony included Oleg Matystin, the President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), Bayasgalan Danzandorj, the Treasurer of FISU and the Supervision Committee Chairmen of the Finals, Huang Hongwu, the Director of the Committee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports of Fujian CPPCC, Yang Liguo, the Vice-President of FISU and Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC), Xu Xipeng, the President of HQU, Lin Zuo, the Senior Director of Qiaodan Sports Co., Ltd., Stephon Marbury, the famous basketball star and the copartner of Stronger Me, and so on. Peng Pei, the Vice-President of HQU presided at the opening ceremony.

      3x3 FISU World University League Finals has been successfully held for three consecutive years in HQU since 2015, when FUSC and HQU co-organized it the first time. This event is highly thought of by all sectors of society, attracts active participation of many world-famous universities, contributes to the dissemination of 3x3 basketball and builds a bridge of culture exchange for young people from all over the world.

      Among the 32 teams participating in the Finals, there are 16 in men's field and 16 in women's field. 20 teams of them have come through qualifying tournaments held in Oceania, Asia, Americas, Africa and Europe, while 8 teams have received wildcard entries. There are also two champion teams of last year (one male and one female) and two host teams (one male and one female) gained automatic qualification. The host HQU will compete at the men’s field.

      The Finals will last for four days, during which pool matches, quarterfinals, semifinals, finals, slam-dunk contest for men and shootout contest for women are going to take place one after another. The closing ceremony,as well as award ceremony is scheduled to be held on the afternoon of November18th.
