1. School Profile
Huaqiao University established the School of Preparatory Education in September 2019based on the integration of more than 60 years of international Chinese language education and teaching and the resources of preparatory education institutions for undergraduate international students studying in China under the Chinese Government Scholarship of the Ministry of Education.
It takes responsibilities of the education and training of Chinese Government Scholarship undergraduate international students and other preparatory students and undertakes Chinese language education for overseas Chinese, international students, civil servants and industry elite.
The School has more than 20 full-time and part-time teachers for basic Chinese, science and technology Chinese, liberal arts Chinese, mathematics, physics, chemistry, Chinese culture and other professional courses. It has created a series of courses of “Basic Chinese, Vocational Chinese and China in the New Era” with clear objectives, rich contents and diversified levels. It has established a professional artificial intelligence Chinese online autonomous learning and training platform and a Chinese teaching resource platform to consolidates students’ Chinese foundation and improve students’ Chinese application and cross-cultural communication abilities. Such ablities will help students adapt to the study and life in China and lay a solid language and cultural foundation for overseas talents in various industries to communicate, study and work in Chinese. The School also strives to deepen students’ understanding of Chinese culture and China in the new era and promote exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations.
The School now has more than 300 international students from more than 50 countries. It has obtained excellent results with a 100% passing rate in the education completion examination for preparatory students studying in China of the Ministry of Education in 2020 and 2021.
2. School Orientation
The training of students in the School of Preparatory Education is divided into two directions: preparatory education for overseas study in China and speed-up Chinese education.
Preparatory Education for international students in China is a pre-university education specially set up for overseas students. The courses are based on the basic Chinese education, with the bridge of science and technology Chinese and liberal arts Chinese to promote the balanced development of overseas students’ Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. These courses enable students to acquire the abilities to use Chinese as the medium language to master the basic knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry, understand the Chinese culture and the new era of China, develop good learning habits and adapt to the undergraduate or graduate study in China.
Speed-up Chinese education mainly aims at civil servants of “Belt and Road” countries, overseas university students, international Chinese teachers and industry elites. The training objectives are to enable students to master the basic knowledge and application skills of Chinese, master professional Chinese knowledge, use Chinese for daily communication and study, understand Chinese culture and China in the new era and become knowledgeable, professional and skilled talents to promote the friendship and cooperation between China and foreign countries.
3. Teaching Features
· Immersion intensive teaching and short-term language acquisition
We adopt the comprehensive training method of Chinese courses to ensure Chinese learners to pass HSK level 4 or HSK Level 5 within ten months and improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities.
· Refine teaching management and accompany and assistance in the whole process
Adhering to the management strategy of “one student, one document, one policy”, we teach only the essentials and ensure plenty of practice. We adopt small class teaching mode to make sure each student will be accompanied by the head teacher in the whole process.

We adopt a comprehensive evaluation system, introduce phased goal orientation, conduct monthly learning effect tests and provide feedback on learning effect timely.

4. Key Cooperation Projects with Foreign Universities
· Cooperation with overseas universities to provide Chinese credit courses
The School of Preparatory Education of Huaqiao University integrates Chinese credit courses into the professional curriculum system of relevant colleges and universities and sets up credits according to the training requirements of students from overseas universities. .This program focuses on Chinese teaching courses and is taught by teachers selected by Huaqiao University through the online teaching platforms.
· Elite Chinese intensive training classes of overseas universities
The School of Preparatory Education of Huaqiao University offers short-term intensive Chinese courses to overseas university students and intellectual elites who are willing to learn Chinese in various industries. After one year of online teaching, students can master the basic knowledge and application skills of Chinese, basically meet the requirements of Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing, grasp professional Chinese knowledge and use Chinese for daily communication, study and work.
