The College of Information Science and Engineering of Huaqiao University was founded in May 2000. Its predecessor is Electrical Engineering Department and Electronic Engineering Department. The college takes information physical system as the main discipline development direction and serves China and Fujian Province’s economic development needs based on the frontier research of industrial science and technology.

The college has 146 faculty members ((107 full-time teachers), 13 professors and 43 associate professors. The faculty includes two national high-end foreign experts, three members of the “National High-end Overseas Experts Introduction Plan”, one member of the “Backbone Teachers of Higher Education” Program of the Ministry of Education, one member of the “New Century Excellent Talents Support Program” of the Ministry of Education and one selected candidate of the “Young College Teacher Award” of the Ministry of Education. Many of them have been selected for provincial and ministerial talent projects. The College attaches great importance to the comprehensive training of talents. It offers six undergraduate programs in Electrical Engineering and Automation, Electronic Science and Technology, Electronic Information Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems, Communication Engineering and Applied Physics. There are 2,072 students pursuing these programs. It provides five postgraduate programs in Optical Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Energy and Power and Electronic Information. 448 postgraduate students are studying these programs. Optical Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology and Information and Communication Engineering are selected as provincial key disciplines. We actively respond to the national “Belt and Road” policy and undertake a number of overseas talent training projects set up by the United Front Work Department, including Presidential Fund for Young Talents of Angola and Huaqiao University and State Grid Jointly-trained High-level Talents in Pakistan. There are nearly 100 international students from Angola, Myanmar, Malaysia and other countries.

Among the current undergraduate programs, Electrical Engineering and Automation and Electronic Science and Technology were selected as the national first-class undergraduate programs in 2020. Communication Engineering was selected as the provincial first-class undergraduate program in 2020. Electrical Engineering and Automation concentrates on electrical engineering, control science and engineering and has the characteristics of combining strong and weak electricity, electrical technology and electronic technology, software and hardware, components and systems, operation and control. Electronic Science and Technology focuses on developing students’ basic theoretical knowledge, including Semiconductor Devices, Semiconductor Physics, Photoelectric Detection and Design modules, which aims to lay a solid foundation of natural science for students and equip students with professional knowledge, excellent experimental skills and a sense of engineering. Communication Engineering mainly studies the basic knowledge, theory, composition principle and design method of communication systems and communication networks. The program aims to cultivate students to engage in modern communication systems and networks, develop their abilities to design, develop, adjust and test networks, and sharpen their engineering application skills. It also strives to cultivate senior engineering and technical talents with solid theoretical foundation and professional knowledge of communication technology, communication systems and communication networks.

The College now possesses two teaching bases: University Physics Experiment Center and Fujian Electrical and Electronic Teaching Center. The University Physics Experiment Center consists of the University Physics Laboratory, Modern Physics Laboratory, Applied Physics Laboratory, Demonstration Physics Laboratory and Optical Research Laboratory. The total laboratory area of Quanzhou and Xiamen campuses covers an area of 1,500 square meters. Fujian Electrical and Electronic Teaching Center is the provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. Its laboratory area reaches more than 1,200 square meters. The total value of instruments and equipment exceeds 15 million yuan. Meanwhile, the College is responsible for the training and guidance of electronic design competition for college students, “Challenge Cup” scientific and technological works and students’ independent projects, providing practice site and technical guidance for graduation design of electrical and information majors. The College pays attention to the combination of teaching and scientific innovation and the combination of teaching and practice and has achieved fruitful results. An average of 27 people won national awards each year and 117 people won provincial awards in the past three years.

In terms of research institutions, the College currently has Fujian Province Electromechanical Control and System Optimization Scheduling Engineering Technology Research Center, Fujian Province Key Laboratory of Optical Transmission and Transformation, Xiamen Key Laboratory of Mobile Multimedia Communication and Xiamen Key Laboratory of Special-Purpose Integrated Circuit System. In addition to daily teaching, teachers of the college fully apply their professional knowledge to lead students to participate in scientific research activities, which has achieved remarkable results. The college has published 75 SCI papers annually, 43 EI papers, 69 invention patents, 24 horizontal projects and 27 vertical projects in the past three years. Our project receives an average of 8.5 million yuan of funding each year.

The progress in scientific research has promoted further communication with experts at home and abroad. The college has successfully held events such as “The 18th National Youth Communication Academic Annual Conference”, “The 5th National Information Optics and Photonics Academic Conference”, “Workshop on Granular Flow Physics”, “National Symposium on Soft Matter and Complex Systems”, “The 23rd Annual Conference on Information Theory of Chinese Society of Electronics (ITS2016)”, “International Conference on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ISPACS 2017)”, “The 10th Dynamics Days Asia Pacific (DDAP10)”, “The 6th International Symposium on Statistical Physics and Mathematics of Complex Systems (SPMCS2020)”, “Challenges and New Opportunities in Complex Systems and Statistical Physics” autumn senior seminar and “The 18th International Conference on Networks, Sensors and Control” and other 13 crucial domestic and foreign academic conferences.
