The China Automation Congress 2022 (CAC 2022) was held in Xiamen from Nov. 25 to 27 under the theme of “Digital Intelligence for a Better Future”. The conference was co-hosted by the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA) and Fujian Association for Science and Technology (FAST) and held by Huaqiao University (HQU). Nearly 1,500 experts and scholars in the field attended the conference online and offline. Among them 8 were members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and 2 members of Academia Europaea (AE).

The CAC 2022 comprised 7 keynote speeches and 32 panel sessions on cutting-edge fields like carbon peak and carbon neutrality, automation of domestic devices, and smart manufacturing. The attendees presented papers and posters online on 30 topics such as industrial and service robots. The conference received extensive attention and support from the automation community, with over 1,600 submitted papers and more than 10,000 online visits. The audience of its live-streaming channel even hit a record high of 13 million.

Keynote speakers CAE Member Prof. Zhang Ping from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, CAS Member Prof. Yang Mengfei from China Academy of Space Technology, Dr. Yu Haibin, Deputy Director of the CAA and Director of the CAS Shenyang Institute of Automation, CAS Member Prof. Ding Han from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, AE Member and CAA Fellow Prof. Liu Derong from University of Illinois, AE Member Prof. Alessandro Astolfi from Imperial College London, also Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE TAC, and Prof. Martin Guay from Queen’s University, also Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Process Control and Associate Editor of the IEEE TAC, delivered keynote speeches on the topics of “Building ‘Web 3.0’ to Promote China’s Automation Development”, “Studies of Intelligent Precise Perception and Manipulation of Extraterrestrial Objects”, “Industrial Automation in the Internet Age”, and “The Robotic Systems for Smart Manufacturing”, etc.

The CAC is a national academic conference hosted by the CAA. Since the first edition in 2009, it has become one of the most influential academic events in the fields of automatic control, instrumentation, aerospace, artificial intelligence, network security, and smart manufacturing.

Automation has long been a strong academic discipline of HQU. Currently, HQU has specialized in a variety of research fields such as smart processing and manufacturing with high efficiency and high precision, and digital design and additive manufacturing. HQU ranks in the top 5‰ of ESI with Engineering, and top 1% with Computer Science. In recent years, HQU has integrated scientific research with education, established innovation bases of industry-education integration, and carried out collaborative teaching with other universities. Other achievements include a newly-built National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center, national projects of emerging engineering, and Second Prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award.
