On the evening of August 7, the beginning of autumn, the global live streaming “A bite of China connects overseas Chinese thousands of miles’ away” was jointly held by the Office of International Chinese Education of Huaqiao University (HQU), the Dendy Lecture Hall in Australia, and multiple organizations at home and abroad, attracting nearly 100 Chinese teenagers in China, Australia and the United States.

The live streaming was composed of three parts, “Delicacies and homeland”, “Representative delicacies” and “Delicacies and life”, with teens from home and abroad co-hosting it, and 16 guest groups demonstrating their original videos of cuisine and participating in bilingual interviews in Chinese and English.

The Youth Service Team from HQU’s College of Chinese Language and Culture showed the video of their hometown delicacies, including Quanzhou mianxianhu (thin noodlepaste), Xiamen hailijian (oyster omelet), Henan hulatang (soup with pepper), Xinjiang kaonang (baked buns), Sichuan malatang (spicy hot pot) and Guangdong zaocha (morning tea), which presented the wonderful life and food culture of China for overseas teenagers.

The event is one of the serial activities of “multilingual narration of regional cultural histories around the world” jointly organized by the Office of International Chinese Education of HQU and the Dendy Lecture Hall in Australia. Through a series of theme planning activities based on the seasonal festivals throughout the year, the project aims to build a platform for transnational peer interaction for overseas Chinese, recollect their memories of Chinese culture and their ancestral families, and support the growth of Chinese teens at home and abroad.
