This year marks the 25thanniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, as well as the 25thanniversary of the establishment of the 24 Festive Drums Team of Huaqiao University. On the evening of June 3rd, to embrace the Start of Summer in the Year of the Tiger, the drum team live streamed a performance on Bilibili, China’s Youtube. Drummers of the two campuses jointly presented a visual and auditory feast for teachers and students on and off campus.
The performance kicked off with an MV “A Date on the Start of Summer”, which recorded the everyday training of drummers.
The performance specially brought in graduated drummers via video link. Current drummers joined their predecessors Zheng Zhousheng (Malaysia), Liu Wei and Liu Huanrui to look back on the old days and took advice from them to build a better 24 Festive Drums team.
Tan Chai Puan from Malaysia, one of the founders of 24 Festive Drums, also congratulated via video link on the team anniversary, and hoped that they would go international soon.
The 24 Festive Drums Team of Huaqiao University has been committed to inheriting the traditional Chinese culture through drums since its establishment 25 years ago. They’ve been putting on a performance on campus every year around the Start of Summer, when all the drummers work together and train hard. Even graduated drummers will come back from all over the world to enjoy the feast together.
