The First Blue Book of 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Compiled by HQU Published

The first Blue Book of 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road: Research Report on 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road (2017), organized and compiled by the Maritime Silk Road Research Institute of Huaqiao University (HQU), was recently published by the Social Sciences Academic Press. The editor-in-chief and deputy chief editor of the Blue Book are Professor Jia Yimin and Professor Xu Peiyuan of HQU respectively.

The Blue Book centers on the development of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road and focuses on fields, including the maritime connectivity, economic and trade cooperation along the Maritime Silk Road, the maritime security and risks, the seaway construction, the maritime geopolitics, etc., with the goal to produce a professional and authoritative annual report on the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road. The book includes four parts: General Report, Southeast Asia, South and West Asia and Other Regions, and Features.

"General Report" provides an overall interpretation of the connotation, significance, construction advantages and difficulties, and construction paths of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road. "Southeast Asia" and "South and West Asia and Other Regions" dynamically evaluate, assess and forecast the development of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road from regional and international perspectives with an analysis of the new issues, new opportunities and new problems in its development. "Features" focuses on hotspot issues of common concern in bilateral or multilateral cooperation in the development of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, and explores the issues concerning its development, such as the South China Sea issue, fisheries foreign-related affairs, energy security, and the industrial layout of overseas Chinese merchants.

Established in Mar. 2014, the Maritime Silk Road Research Institute of Huaqiao University is the first "The Belt and Road Initiative" university think tank in China.
