The Third Friendly Cultural Exchange Program

I. Program Introduction

The Friendly Cultural Exchange Program, jointly initiated by Huaqiao University and Xiamen Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, is committed to telling Chinas stories in English and contributing to mutual understanding between cultures. Through online live interactive courses, the program offers an insight into Chinas culture and development. The upcoming third session is open to international friendship cities of Xiamen and all those interested in learning more about Xiamen and China.

II. Overview of Huaqiao University

Established in 1960 by the Chinese central government, Huaqiao University has two campuses in Quanzhou and Xiamen. Sticking to the vision of internationalization, Huaqiao University has enrolled students from over 50 countries and regions. As one of the universities with the largest number of international students on Chinese mainland, HQU boasts a multicultural campus atmosphere and a comparative strength in Chinese language and culture education and training on Chinese mainland.

III. Course information

1. Schedule: May 14\15\21\22 \28\29, on weekendsThe program includes SIX lectures, each lasting for 90 minutes.

2. Teaching language: English or Bilingual(Chinese and English).

4. Fees: Free of charge

5. Requirements:

Participants of any professions are welcome to the program.

Applicants must

ü be at least 15 years old unless otherwise noted.

ü have access to a computer with camera and microphone;

6. Evaluation & Certificate

Participants learning process will be measured during the program based on attendance and active participation. Students who attend 80% of the live lectures will be awarded a completion certificate. Certificates will be emailed to students at the conclusion of the program.

7. Program Valuation

At the conclusion of the program, students will complete anonymous surveys on each aspect of the program.

China’s Marine Ecological Civilization Policies and Practices

This lecture aims to introduce the Chinese experience of blue economy development through the integrated coastal management practices in different stages focusing on the comprehensive bay cleanup and development. The lecture will also begin with the update of ocean and blue economy development in the context of global sustainable development agenda, ocean and coastal management as well as the marine ecological civilization policies in China.

This lecture will show the scene of Xiamen City lively. The lecture contains Chinese daily expressions and brief introduction of Chinese folk culture.
